In 1992, the ACDCA (Austrian Center for Didactics of Computer Algebra) began a conference series focusing on the use of symbolic calculation software in mathematics education. The first international conference dedicated to the use of Derive symbolic calculation software took place in 1994. After that time, ACDCA and Derive conferences were held in alternating years. In 2002, the two conferences were merged into the first TIME (Technology and its Integration into Mathematics Education) Conference. In 2012, Derive conferences are renamed as Conferences for CAS in Education & Research.
IJTME exists to provide a medium by which a wide range of experiences in the use of computer software and hand-held technology in mathematics education can be presented, discussed and criticised so the best practice can be assimilated into the new curricula of schools, colleges and universities. The main criterion of acceptance is that the material should make a contribution to knowledge in this field. The types of contribution normally considered for publication in IJTME are:
Research Reports, which should normally contain the theoretical framework and references to related literature, indication and justification for the methodology used and some analysis of results of the study; research is not viewed as only empirical research;
Ideas for Teaching and Learning, papers in this section report on classroom activities and good ideas for teaching with technology;
Discussion papers that raise important issues on the teaching and learning of mathematics with technology to promote a wide-ranging discussion.
It is anticipated that the TIME submissions will mainly fall into the first two of the above categories. The TIME conference submissions will be refereed by members of the conference’s academic committee, who will decide which papers should be submitted for the special edition.
For this TIME IJTME-SI, we welcome extended versions of selected papers presented at TIME 2012.
It is essential that submissions to be considered for publication in The International Journal for Technology in Mathematics Education conform to the details set out below. The file SamplePaper.doc has been included as a template.
A brief biographical note on the author(s) and the address for correspondence (electronic and postal) must be included.
- Contributions must use Microsoft Word or Word Compatible documents.
- The SamplePaper.doc shows an example of a final layout.
- The length of the papers must not exceed 6 pages when in the standard IJTME format. The SamplePaper.doc contains just over 4000 words as well diagrams.
- The submission should be written in standard English. Straightforward language is preferred to the obscure or complex. The use of complex statistical evidence is not considered to be intrinsically valuable.
- We kindly request authors to send their contribution to be reviewed by an English-speaking native person before submitting it.
- The document should be accompanied by an abstract/summary of between 100 and 150 words.
- Each illustration (figure or table) must be of sufficiently high quality. The position of each illustration in the text should be made clear and should have an explanatory legend or title.
- References should be listed in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. For different examples, see the file IJTME_authors_notes_references.pdf.
The International Journal for Technology in Mathematics Education (IJTME) welcomes the opportunity to publish papers from the TIME 2014 conference. Up to two issues will be set aside and these will contain 8 papers each. The papers for the special edition will be subject to a maximum length of 6 pages to enable a good spread of papers to be included in each edition.
Please, first of all, send to José Luis Galán García at email@example.com an e-mail stating your intention of sending a proposal for the Special Issue as soon as possible but not later than July 20th. Please, indicate in the mail the title of the talk given at TIME 2014 and the code asigned in the book of abstracts for which you will send an extended version of the talk as a proposal for the Special Issue.
When sending your proposal, please provide in the mail body the data of three suggested referees who are not in any ethical conflict but who are ready to review your paper quickly. We cannot promise that all of them will be contacted but some of them probably will. The length of the review process of your paper depends almost exclusively on referees. If too many referees decline reviewing your paper, the process will be delayed.
TIME IJTME-SI is now open. In order to speed up the review process, remember to send your contribution to be reviewed by an English-speaking native person before submiting it. In order to submit your proposal, you have to attach and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org (and do not forget to provide the data of three suggested referees).
The dead line for submissions is September 15th.
Provisional time line
September 15th 2014 –> Papers submissions deadline.
January 2015 –> Decisions taken in the light of comments from referees.
April 2015 –> All revisions to papers completed and approved.
May 2015 –> Papers sent to IJTME team at Plymouth.
End of 2015 and/or begining of 2016 –> First and second special Issues to press.
